Ribbons are a very new material for me. I was very hesitant about using them because I wasn’t sure if I could use them beyond a simple bow. I wanted to be able to use them beyond a simple bow. With some practice, I’ve been able to do some fun designs with them. Not the traditional little bow.

When I was making rough drafts of the Bride and Groom, I knew my traditional twine look wasn’t going to cut it. I needed it to look elegant and a ribbon was going to give me that. The ribbons I had were thicker and had a more trendy print. Not what I wanted for this traditional wedding card. Choosing that ribbon proved to be a little more difficult.
I didn’t know what I could do with ribbon, to be honest. There were so many different kinds of fabrics, colors, and patterns. Could I use hot glue with them? Or does fabric glue work best? First of all, I wanted to find a ribbon that could give me that elegant look I wanted. I knew the ribbon was going to be blue. When I think of weddings, the saying ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.’ I also wanted a lace look to give that more elegant and traditional feel. I had to be careful with the hot glue because it was so thin. It didn’t take any more than a minuscule drop.
Ribbon, no matter where you buy it, will be a little pricey so choose something you will use again in future works. When using the ribbon, I had to be careful with the hot glue because it was so thin. It didn’t take any more than a minuscule drop. Trying to find some non-traditional bows was time-consuming but I think it was worth it with the end result.
What have been your experience with ribbons? Challenges or benefits of using a particular kind? Share with me your designs via Twitter or Instagram. I would love to see it!
In other news, I will be taking next week off for the holidays but the following I will be back updating regularly.
I’m excited to show off some of my new Christmas cards!
