Floral, Thank You Cards

Dresses to Impress

It has been too long! I’m happy to say though that it was time well spent. I graduated! Thank goodness for that. Now onto… Something. I’m still figuring out the details. I went to school with one idea of what I wanted and left with more than I expected.

Now on to more fun things.

Here are three cards I did for my mom to give to her supervisors and managers as a thank you. I decided to do fun dresses! Now, these actually took me a couple days to do. Usually, I take a few days to sketch out and figure out materials and then just do it all in one sitting. So, about 20-30 minutes on one card. That wasn’t the case here.

After looking up different dress shapes and sketching out and planning out materials, I decided to start with the fishtail dress. I have always loved this look and was excited to try it out. I took the bottom from a fishtail dress that actually was more ruffles than individual floral design but it reminded me of it. The top was taken from a different dress I saw that did have floral detail.

I didn’t really think this one through, workload wise. For some reason, it didn’t occur to me that I was going to have to glue each of those tissue paper floral details individually. By hand.

It took a while.

I’m happy how it turned out though. The midsection was bare for a long while. I went to the store to find something and I found this 10 pack of glitter! It was perfect. I never used glitter so I was a little nervous. I didn’t want to glitter forever. My poor dog though was glittery for a couple of days. I forgot I had some still on my hands and pet him. He is black too so it looked even better.

I just recently bought a new cardstock book with a marble look. I fell in love and wanted to use them right away so I used it in this set. I also cut the paper by hand. Folding it over and creasing it so I could have that tear paper look on the edges. That was also very time consuming and the results were far from perfect, but I was able to hide any mistakes.

Now the ballgown was a trial and error. I really wanted to recreate that folded/creased look the skirts looked from the dresses I found online. Some materials were thicker and others were made of that sheer tulle fabric. I decided that tissue paper would be my best bet to get that look.

I had a few dummy tests to figure out how to get the tissue paper to work. I did this twice. I figured out that if I put down a lighter base the overlapping wouldn’t be so overwhelming and I didn’t have to use as many layers. Then I just cut strips to get the look I wanted.

I actually had to make this twice. I messed up and overdid it with the little jewels. I wanted to do what the glitter did here but with the jewels and it just looked super tacky. Luckily I had it down and quickly re-made it. This was around the time I found the glitter so I was able to get it to look how I wanted.

Good thing these weren’t too big. The dresses themselves were probably about 3-4 inches or a little more. The cardstock I used was huge though. Probably about 6-7 inches tall.

Last but not least, the short dress. This one actually took me very little time to do. Like 15 minutes and that is only because I had to wait for my glue gun to warm up and I kept changing my mind from using white cardstock as a base and going without for a few minutes. It was so similar to the wedding dress cards I’ve done, I was able to quickly cut it out.

Now, the wedding dress was done very differently but the way the lace overlapped each other was similar that it just clicked. I was afraid that this was going to look too much like a wedding dress. But with how short it is and a little more narrow, it looked more like a sundress to me.

These were so much fun to do! I was so happy that my mom’s bosses liked them so much and of course, my mom did too. She was happy I was finding more time to do this. I am too! I’ve missed this.

I don’t have a material list this time around. Didn’t have it written up in time for this and I decided to forgo it. I’ll be sure to have that for next time!

By the way, I started an Instagram for Crafting Cards with Love! I’ll be posting teasers a few days/1 week before they post on here (which will now be every other Wednesday around noon MT), just depending on when I finish the projects and the blog posts. Along with my smaller projects and whatever else, this fun hobby of mine will bring.

My Snapchat is up too. I like posting the progress of projects on there. You’ll probably see my dog a lot too between projects so be prepared for that!

Have a good rest of your week!
