Birthday, Lettering

Happy 65th!

Yesterday was my dad’s 65th birthday. Wow. It’s incredible how time flies, and many times when people think of time and change, they look at younger people or kids getting older and start feeling old. But for me, I can’t help but think of my aging parents. They honestly are not that old compared to others, and they live quite young filled lives. But you can help but think.

But I digress. This card is for my dad, and I had the hardest time trying to figure out what to do. At first, I was going to do some traditional candles with “Happy Birthday, Dad” up top. But when I was cutting out cutouts of candles with white cardstock, I thought it looked quite bland. So I pulled out some patterned cardstock and looked at what I had to work with to make this card more attractive. I thought I would try out adding some color. Then the next thing I knew, I had a few patterns cut out. I decided to keep the original white cut outs and paired them with the patterned cutouts.

For the flames, I used white cardstock and cut out the little flames. I then colored them in with my Prismacolor pencils. The sentiment I freed hand with a white Prismacolor pencil, which was a bit hard, haha. I had to erase a portion because I messed up with the angle and tried to fix it. If I were to do this again, I would use a white marker or something that was a little sharper and brighter. But I like how it turned out all the same.

Overall, I enjoyed this. It’s fun but not too quirky. Just enough for my dad to look at it and say, “that’s a nice card.”

I might have a few more cards in the works. With how the current situation is with COVID, I don’t think I’ll be seeing many people, so I’ve been making some cards. These may or may not be sent out. I’m a little fickle like that.

I hope all who are reading this finds themselves safe, and hopefully, this will pass quickly.
