Now, this was fun. Never did anything like this before so I was a little nervous to try it. Hopefully, it looks as good as I think it does.
This was actually a very, very late birthday card for one of my best friends. Sometimes when it gets this bad, I just keep it to dinner or hanging out or just a gift without a card. I really wanted to do this though so I asked my friend for forgiveness and to wait a bit longer.

So, this was inspired by my friend’s love for Taylor Swift. Specifically her last album, RED. So I went online and looked at the dresses and other outfits she wore during her tour. A lot of red. I picked one of her longer dresses to focus on. It actually was opened in the front to show off these bedazzled shorts but I ended up making it a full dress but I did reference where the opening would’ve been.
First I needed some fake flower petals. I thought about using tissue paper but then I saw some leftover flowers from a craft last year and I figured that would look amazing and it would be fun to do something different. So I went to the store to try to find the “perfect” petal shape. I wanted a more narrow shape. This dress wasn’t so much poofy as it was flowy. I wanted to try and show that.
Trying to construct this was a frustrating challenge. Figuring out how to use the petals and make them fit together was trial and error. The craft I did last year was just using the flower heads so trying to use individual petals was an experience. Then I tried very hard not to have the glue bleed through the petals. The flowers I picked had two different types of petals. I used the inner petals, the thinner ones, as the top and on the inside of the skirt. To reference those bedazzled shorts. The bigger and rounder petals make up the body of the dress. Then it’s all wrapped up with a nice ribbon around the waist.
As beautiful as I think it turned out, it needed something more. So I added the ribbon, which also was on Taylor Swift’s dress, and look at my new photo mats book. I found the best pattern to complement this amazing dress and then hold lettering. Bam. A pretty awesome card. I even used this pattern on the inside of the card.

This is before I added my message which was on white paper. I used the patterned paper as a border. The other piece is just my little experiment in filling up some empty space.
What do you think? I’m pretty confident for a first attempt.
I used COLORBÖK’s textured Bright Days cardstock and their Brights photo mats.
The flower petals are just from the dollar store. Good old dollar store.
